Peter Asher: A Musical Memoir

Type: Concerts

Peter Asher began his journey in the entertainment world as part of the successful British Invasion pop duo Peter and Gordon. The pair rose to fame in the 1960s with hits like "A World Without Love," a song gifted to them by Paul McCartney, who was dating Peter's sister Jane at the time. The duo achieved great commercial success, but Peter's aspirations went beyond performing. His innate musicality and business acumen would later establish him as one of the most influential figures behind the scenes in the music industry.

Following Peter and Gordon's disbandment, Asher took on a managerial and production role at Apple Records, where he played a crucial part in signing and developing the career of James Taylor. Asher produced Taylor's debut album and helped redefine the folk-rock genre with his warm, introspective sound. He also became Linda Ronstadt's longtime producer and manager, working on many of her hit albums and steering her career toward superstardom. Through his work with these artists, Asher became known for his ability to nurture talent and create timeless music that resonated with audiences across generations.

Over the decades, Peter Asher's career has spanned a wide variety of roles, including record executive, manager, producer, and even actor. His collaborations with artists like Neil Diamond, Cher, and Billy Joel further showcase his versatility and wide-ranging influence. Asher also ventured into classical and soundtrack music, working with Hans Zimmer and contributing to film and television projects. His remarkable ability to adapt and thrive across musical styles has solidified his legacy as a true industry legend.

In 2015, Peter Asher was awarded a CBE - Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire - by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. The official investiture took place at Buckingham Palace on February the 24th, conducted by Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.

Peter Asher continues to perform in a live concert setting, primarily with his multi-media show: "Peter Asher: A Musical Memoir of the 60s and Beyond." He also tours on occasion with guitar great Albert Lee as an acoustic duo, and with old friend Jeremy Clyde of Chad & Jeremy.
